Hi would be great if I could get a quick answer!

I'm about to transplant an engine now. As I'm doing it on my own and I need to get it done ASAP would it be quicker / easier to swap the whole engine and subby together. I need to change some brake parts from the donor car anyway so would save doing that too.
And what is te best way to lift the body over the engine?

And advice or good ideas wil be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

I would lift the car over the subby. but it is a very strong 1 person job, or a 2 person job. Not much help I know, but I'd personally get help.

I lifted the body over the sub-frame once, in 1969, never again. It's a nightmare as so much has to be removed, like brake pipes, main electrical cable, dampers, track-rod ends, etc. It's 2-man job to do it safely.

To lift the engine out is a 3-hour job, maximum, for one person and an engine crane.

I thought that would be easier. I'm sure I can rope someone in once I've in bolted everything...
Cheers.

I've done it both ways.

Lift the engine out the top. That way you keep the weight of the car on the suspension which helps to prevent ball joints from spinning when you try and undo them.

You will have to get the suspension apart to remove the driveshafts which will release the engine from the frame.

Get an engine lifting eye so that the engine tilts as you lift it.

It's not as difficult as you might think.
