Deciding to put a fuel filter in the Mini due to it have dirt in the fuel last week, so can I put the fuel filter below the tank? Will the fuel pump be ok or shall I put it the other side of the fuel pump?

I always put inline filters before the fuel pump, just below the tank.

If you think you have some dirt in the lines or the pump iself, you can put another filter just before the carb, no need to use expensive filters, the plastic cheap filters will be fine as long as you change them regularly.
