Pre A Plus Pistons In An A Plus Block?

Best Answer Cooperman , 15 July 2013 - 09:01 PM

A & A+ cranks, rods & pistons are more-or-less interchangeable. The only difference in practice can be the method of gudgeon pin retention, but so long as pistons & rods are matched there is no issue.

In general A+ stuff is a bit stronger as the rods are better and the cranks have better fillet radii between webs & journals.

Are you going to use 2nd hand pistons? That is not wise and for the additional cost a new set with a re-bore is always advised. Engines should be bored to suit a specific set of pistons and when not doing so it is likely the engine will use oil, smoke and need another re-build soon. It's false economy really.

Hi,

I've had a Quick search but cant find an answer. so just wanting to double check can i use a set of Pre A plus 998 pistons and rods with my A plus Block and Crank?

I've already bought the Pistons as they where going dirt cheap on Ebay and are in superb condition but just want to check they will actually work before i start buying rings and bearings for them.

Thanks

Chris

A Cheers mate that's good news.

I've measure the bores at work and i'm happy there with in tolerance. To be honest i was planning on buying new pistons but a set of second hand ones came up on Ebay for £15, so i though i would take a chance and see what condition they where in. when they arrived i was gob smacked they look almost brand new with a tiny amount of Surface rubbing on the skirt.

The engine isn't going to be anything to serious ether just lighted internals and a 1275 Head  :-)
