I'm considering buying a second car to keep the miles off the mini (and ultimately stop me having to sell it!).

There are two cars currently in the house, mine and my wife's. The mini is insured with Adrian Flux under a classic policy, so presumably I couldn't add a second car to it. I suppose we could look at doing a multi-car policy with her policy as we'll both be using it but I wasn't sure on the options.

Also I know you can't use your no claims on two policies, but surely that must count in your favour when setting up another policy?

What do the multiple car owners on here do? Any recommendations for what to do / who to insure with?

HIC do a mirror policy where they give you the same amount of no claims discount on a second car, as you already have on your first, so long as you insure both cars with them. R&H classic do a classic multi car policy that you can add single non classic/modern car to, so long as both cars are owned and registered in the same name.

That sounds like exactly what I'd want, although I'm mid-way through my policy so changing insurance companies isn't really an option - I'm sure I'd end up losing most of my year's premium! >_<

That's always the problem with multi car policies, the chances are that no two cars in a household will ever have existing insurance that happens to expire around the same time as each other. So ultimately, unless you're very lucky, you always end up loosing out on part of a years premium if you put both cars on the same policy.

By the way, last time I checked Adrian Flux didn't do multi car policies, so staying with you current insurer probably wouldn't be an option.

Yeah, that's what I was afraid of. At the end of the day the policy was cheap this year for the mini, but I'm a tight git so if I can avoid spending extra money I will!

The problem with doing an online quote is that I don't know whether to get quoted with or without my no claims!  Maybe I should just wait 'til I actually buy a run-about and then deal with it.
