If its got no float bowl and with that jet it should be an HIF38

HS4 and HIF38 needles mainly start with A

HIF44 needles mainly start with B

If there is no float bowl on the side, then it's a HiF type, if it has a separate float bowl then it's a HS type

The two main ones are the HiF 38 (with a 90 thou jet) and a HiF 44 ( with a 100 thou jet).

If you measure the diameter of the opening at the engine side where the brass butterfly lives

the the diameter should be either 38 mm (1 1/2" in old money) or 44 mm (1 3/4").

I've seen a B needle in a HiF38 and likewise an A needle can fit in a HiF44--they don't run too well

Sorry,

What I mean't was when the HiF is set up it works well,

However you can fit a B needle into a HiF 38 carb 90 thou jet, and vice versa, then it runs badly.

The B needles are sized for 100 thou jets and the A needles usually used for 90 thou jets.
