Is this legal and would it pass the MOT with this conversion?

Yes, the only thing it would fail on was the SRS, which if there is no light isn't a testable item. If the light is there and there is no active steering wheel airbag then it would fail.

Or put some tape over it.
Wood and Pickett is probably a far more expensive 'conversion' than need be being them. Just get a converting boss on ebay

When fitting non-airbag aftermarket seats in BMW MINI's a small 1 ohm resistor is substituted in the connectors for the removed seat side airbags. That way the SRS system thinks there is an airbag load present and so does not show the srs airbag warning light which would fail the MOT. I guess you could do something similar on a late classic Mini for the steering wheel airbag. The MOT normally expect to see the srs light come on with ignition and then go out after its self test, similar to ABS lights.....tape or a non functioning light is likely to fail as they know all the tricks.......best to remove completely but do they expect to see srs on certain year of Mini and computer say fail if not present?

You can just remove the bulb, on the MOT if the SRS light doesnt light at all then its an advisory, if its lit and wont go out its a fail :)

Since this year, it is now part of the MOT that any car originally fitted with an airbag, must keep the airbag.
So yes you 'should' fail the MOT, unless you get a nice tester

I have it up on my car after the restoration and only found out about it before the mot.
so i went and got a cooper sticker made up the size of a mot and stuck it over it.

See i thought they passed something new like it had to remain standard. So if i hide the light i will pass the mot
Theoretically yes, if there isnt an airbag fitted and no SRS light then he cant test for it but you might get an advisory stating the SRS light doesnt light up
