Hi guys, over te past week or so I have recognised my mini needing more and more cranks to start, noticeable enough for me to post on here, this morning coming to work it caught then almost died but I pumped the throttle to keep it going,

Only noticeable things I have done recently is mod the airbox and do a full oil change and filter to commas 20w 50 classic engine oil.... Any ideas? When I got to work I switched it off and started it and it was taking a good 3-4 seconds to start before it jumped into life....am I just worrying? .... I have had so much go wrong with the car I am just waiting for something else so might just be me.

Good sparks on the plugs? Does the fuel pump kick in with a distinct pressurising sound before you crank the engine?

New battery time. Get a Bosch silver battery. Halford a do them. I can't say exactly which one you need (don't want you to buy the wrong one) but I have one on my mpi and it starts first time.

That's where I would start. How old is your battery? Do you use your car daily or does it stay parked up for a while connected up?

Batteries are renowned for draining on mpis and once they fall to 10v they are knackered.

You could try charging it up and see if that makes a difference.

Check and clean your lambda sensor or take the head off and clean/decoke the valves. I used to have to crank my engine for 20 secs until it spluttered into life now it starts straight off.
