My mini van is apparently ex RAF. I got a few plates with the car, already removed. This one I don't recognise, does anybody know if it's a military plate? It reads V/144509 L

Looks like the Body Number to me - all early Minis had these in addition to a chassis plate and commission plate.

i think it is what is known as an FE number (stands for front end)
