1986 Mayfair 1000 Auto

I keep seeing references to adjusting the bands in an auto but i can't find the procedure anywhere. I have an older haynes manual, but it doesnt have it either. My trans doesnt slip, but it does occasionally jerk when shifting leading me to think there is too much slack in the bands and the jerk is the slack being taken out during a shift? i know it isn't the easiest thing to do in car, but i'm about to have the front end off and would like to do it then. Thank you!

First...these are the people left who supply parts for the AP transmission.... http://www.jpat.co.uk/

This write up on the AP transmission is about as good as I can find anywhere.....  http://members.tripo...erica/id72.html

No problem - I'm building info up for the inevitable day when I have to pop the front cover and twiddle myself.

If you do it....take a few photos if you have the time :-)

No. i'd be guessing if I said I did, drop them an email, see if they reply.

They do seem to have everything though.

The proper Rover workshop manuals include all the detail needed to test and overhaul the Auto transmission.  They are on the BMH technical CDs I believe.

I'd tend to suspect it's more to do with the clutch plates, but I don't know a huge amount about these boxes.

In case anyone is watching this, let me revive it. I have my transmission apart and want to make sure the bands are adjusted right before assembling.

Each of the three has a different actuator travel.

Anyone have the adjustment specs.

As for sourcing, Jpat has a lot of parts and a kit, but not some. I got my forward clutch pack from KMP engineering. They make the Pressure plates that Jpat does not carry.

I got a Master kit from JPAT a few weeks ago. It contains all the required oil seals, O rings and gaskets plus the clutch plates and friction plates.
