I changed the dash in my Mini, so the Fuel Gauge is at a different angle, so it always looks like you've got less fuel that you actually have.  Is there a way to tweak that?  (No worries if not)

Secondly (and more important, I reckon), the fuel gauge seems to spend most of it's time telling me I've got plenty of fuel - and then it will suddenly drop to empty, or even below empty!  What could be causing that?  It does make planning journeys tricky as you never quite know how much you've really got, or when he'll decide to panic you!

Thanks. :)

If the temp gauge works ok it could be a faulty sender in the tank. This could be electrical or the sender could be sticking somehow. If you have a multimeter put it on continuity and place one lead red on the terminal black lead disconnected and the other to the tank. Raise the float and you should get a gradual change off hand I think the resistance reduces as the float lifts

I'll see if I can find a multimeter.  Seems to be that if the tank is just under half full or above, it reads fine; but less than a certain point and it stops registering.  After a fill up, it works as you'd expect until it gets to a lower level again.
