I've had this taking up space/getting in the way down the garage for quite a number of years, disassembled (not by me) who knows when.

and was destined for the tip until a sort out of the old shed revealed

Only down side is the seat is cracked and as finding a replacement might be a bit tricky I'll see if I can find a way of repairing it.

But as all the bits minus the odd nut and bolt are there and even if I am a little too big for it, it seams like an easy project (not that I don't have enough already)

with plans being to strip it all down, sand and repaint the frame witch just looks like surface rust, clean up and polish the wheels, axles and steering, fix the seat and reassemble it.

Tyres are in an amazing condition! Some 25-30 years ago, my nephew, followed by my 2 sons managed to bald th rear tyres pon of these by locking he rear wheel in a lurid wheel locked slide ( kind of a handbrake turn but lockin the pedals). I swapped the wheels around regularly to even the wear. Happy days. Cheers,

I don't think it's even had much use to be honest before being stripped and stuffed in the back of the shed/garage. I've certainty never played with this one having grown up in the late 80's/90's when all pedal/go karts had big chunky plastic wheels with zero traction.

I did get a bit more done yesterday, I stripped it all down and cleaned up all the various bits with nothing more than a few brillo pads and soapy water.

9425189940_a71c1f3036_z.jpg

I was originally going to paint all the wheels, steering, axles etc. silver, but even a few minutes with the brillo pad and the wheels where polishing up nicely. I did however brake one the domes cover/clips that held the rear wheels on, so I'll have to come up with something to fix that as finding a replacement won't be easy.

After it had all dried I couldn't resist quickly assembling it and also to check is I had enough new bolts although minus a few washers.

I could have almost of left it how it was, but nope I stripped it back down again and began sanding the frame.

And primed ready for and quick rub down and another coat before I decide what colour to repaint it, as I'm not overly keen on the lime green.

Frame has now been sanded and given a second coat of primer ready for the top coat, witch I still haven't decided on.

9431115770_e39ee4dd03_z.jpg

And purely because I had some silver left over from refurbing the alloys on the mini, all the little brackets got a quick spray over, even if I have now realised I'm missing 2 square washers.

9431116152_db6d418f19_z.jpg

Came up with a cheap make do and mend repair for the cracked seat and then gave it a spray with some left over tamiya poloycarb paint.

9428348387_66a1d3dcda_z.jpg

9428348257_c221827198_z.jpg

And one job that took blooming ages was polishing up this lot all by hand. I also managed to tap a thread on each end of the rear axle to do away with the retaining clips I'd broke.

9428347069_e333651ea8_z.jpg

The chain has also come up like new after leaving it to soak overnight in some sprits and all I really need to do now is paint the frame and reassemble it all. Plus this little project has so far cost me nothing by using stuff I already have and leftovers from other projects.

I've painted the frame with some left over paint in the garage, but I'm reserving judgement until once it's dried.

I've been looking through eBay and google for similar ones with the pressed steel wheels, but all I can find is plastic wheeled ones, along with a mini body/plans to make one...
