Have you got gas and wire

Yes you need a mask, The one in your link is the type you need, I'm not sure on the quality of that one though. I have one of these http://www.amazon.co...ds=welding mask which is very good, I think a few other on the forum has one too which think they are good.

Pop over to MIGwelding.co.uk and read up about the whole process, especially the thin metal technique. Practice on scrap, learn to hear what a good weld sounds like and practice some more before you go anywhere near your mini. It's not difficult at all, but you will make a mess of your car if you try to learn on the go.

Mask and welding gloves, preferably a fire extinguisher nearby, a workspace clear of flammable material (most home garages have wood shavings, old rags in the corners and a blog of molten wire can bounce a long way...), basically read everything at the mig welding site.

Are you using gasless wire? CO2 or argon mix? Don't get me wrong, I love welding but there is a small learning curve.

Once the mask is CE marked (and that one is) it will be fine for your eyes. The more expensive ones do react slightly quicker and obviously last longer.

I have a Hobart that has served be well for years but it wasn't cheap

To be honest for a newbie welder a gasless welder is not a good idea. There have been numerous threads on Gas versus Gasless and apart from the odd one who has plenty of experience using one then Gas came out tops by a country mile.

Small SIP welders to be honest are pretty cack. And yes i have had one and killed it very quickly. No fan to cool it down so the duty cycle was rubbish.

I always get a fan cooled MIG and the smallest rated one i would use personally is a 135 amp. The Clarke ones are very good for the money and then go from there. Its is down to entirely what you want to use it for and for how long.

I personally wont be touching the mini with a welder , a friend with years of experience welding will be doing it as they offered but didnt have a welder.. Ill have to see if they're happy using it because would rather spend the money on other things if possible
