Recently I've been having some trouble selecting reverse so i took the gear stick out to find that the ball on the end was chewed up, the locating pin was mangled and the slot in the pivot was all misshapen. so i thought great a good excuse to spend some cash on a KAD quickshift.
So i had a go at fitting it tonight first i took the selector box off the car so i could give it a good clean out, i also fitted new bushes on the mountings. i then fitted the quickshift boss (the anodized bit) and put some fresh grease in, then fitted it back to the car with new roll pins as the old ones were a bit lose. once it was all back together i put the shifter in and just tightened the bezzle up finger tight, went to try it out to find it was almost jammed solid.
So i slacked off the bezzle and it was still no better. i can just about select what i think is 3rd and 4th but its extremely stiff and there is no side to side moment to get to 1st or 2nd except for now and again it will slip in to reverse. I also took the plate off the bottom and got my brother to move the gear stick while i was under the car to see if it was catching on any thing but couldn't see anything obvious. so i put it all back together with the old shifter and took the KAD one off.
I also noticed in the boss where the shifter pivots in the anodizing and worn off and the metal is slightly gouged around the locating pin.
anyone got any ideas as to what the problem could be?
Thank
Chris
