Hello all, im fairly new to the world of mini's I have a 1991 mini city which is sat in my garage which is kind of my "project" car I am doing up....anyway I got it home a couple of months ago or so and everything was working fine (electrics) now I have noticed that the hazards aren't working, the indicators are working

I have done a search and everything seems to point at the flasher thing which is suppose to be by the wiper motor - it has no flasher of any kind apart from 1 hanging under the dash, I have changed the switch as I read this is a problem area, now if I hold the switch like half way down I can get a left hand hazard to flash so this has left me confused.

can anyone point me in a direction to look - appreciate the help,,,have since noticed the heated screen light doesn't light up, don't know if they are linked??

I have checked all fuses and they are good

Check the wires on the flasher unit with a multimeter for 12v in/out if none check the connections on the fure box and then the switch, is it a new switch ?

Check for a feed into the switch and out of the switch when turned on to confirm you have 12v in/out

check the inline fuse holder be close to the back of the air filter with purple orange wire i think going into the relay on the right hand side of the engine bay above the wiper motor. my inline fuse holder had lost its metal filling meaning no continuity through the fuse holder.

also check the fuse on the fuse box and the inline fuse with the multimeter as it may look okay but be blown in the caps.

if you have replaced switch may as well replace the relay, fuse holder and fuses though... :)

if your internal light is out too its probably the fuse holder as this splits out just after the inline fuse i think.

Does your Horn work?

If not then its either the fuse of the holder for that fuse. They use the same one.

(in the fuse box, not the inline fuse)

My hazards suddenly stopped working recently. After some head scratching and checking of fuses, (I found a 20A fuse installed when it's supposed to be 10A) and relay, the problem was as simple cleaning up the metal contacts in the in-line fuse holder behind the carb.
