This might sound incredibly stupid... But when I get a new radiator would it be at all possible to install a drain plug on it?

My idea is just cut a small(0.5") hole somewhere at the bottom of the rad where access is easy when it's fitted to the car and weld a tube onto it and get a helicoil or something similar into the tube that I can then tighten a bolt into...

That way I can drain it in a minute and it will drain where I want it to and not all over the side of my engine, pot joint and driveway. I also won't get my hand stuck again.

Feel free to laugh at me... :)

You can yes but you'll be brazing it on not welding ;), best bet is to get a brass tap fitting from B&Q or similar not steel

Good idea to alter it due to as you say making a mess when flushing the system properly

Very early rads had drains, and the fan sender port in later ones is used as a drain (sometimes unintentionally as the senders weren't always very reliably secured). The Mini Spares 2 core now comes with a screw in drain / sender port and I think there is a version of the 4 core with a drain too.  If you want a standard 3 core type then you can just use the push in sender port as a drain but it's not ideal as you will go through a lot of grommets and clips.  It would be better to braze one on.

I have thought about this but I think the bottom of my rad is plastic. Its a Serck one which are good quality. I could bond one in I suppose.
