I am new to this mini world, want to replace the plugs in my 1968 mini. The auto shop gave me bp6es NGk stating they should be o.7. The actual fitted are bpr6es at 0.6. The only info I can find says they should be 0.25. The engine is a 1380 MED. help!!!

depends on ignition, with points you need BP6ES, with electronic BPR6ES

And...I believe take gap to 35 thou with Petronix Ignitor.  Has worked well with my 1380.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the difference and what is the advantage.
I have just had my 1380 rebuilt and changed from points to electronic ignition and i am using the original BP6ES.
Will the BPR6ES be beneficial and why ?

The 'R' is for resistor, and I think you need these if you're leads aren't the resistor type, but it won't do any harm if they are, and you have bpr6es

How complex for a set of plugs. Another silly question, how do I know if its electronic ignition or has points( don't all laugh at once)

Pop off the distributor cap and have a look. Points will look like this:

May be red bits on if its the earlier dizzy.

Electronic ignition just looks like a little black box, possibly with a sticker on top.

You should only change to 7's from 6's if you're finding the end of the plugs are burning and eroding...

The higher the number the cooler the plug will run buy the nature of the more shrouded the electrode is. when you get to 8's you'll see there's hardly any of the electrode producing outside of the threaded part of the plug...

Many people run 7's mistakenly thinking that there's a performance gain, sometimes quite the opposite.

This is what the ignition looks like, presume then its electronic. Still not sure which plugs I should be using though as it is the 1380.

Start with BPR6ES then if you find them to be overheating and burning out, then move up to BPR7ES, and so on... I'll be surprised if you need anything different to the 6's
