Hi all. I can't get my clutch to disengage, I've changed the clutch plate after suspecting a frozen clutch and nothing's changed. The release plunger moves freely through the flywheel casing, and a new slave cylinder has been fitted. It's like it needs to travel further to release the diaphragm. The release plunger has a polished surface, but the diaphragm stil has a machined surface even though it wasn't changed. It's a pre-verto system. The car is a 1979 mini 1275 GT. The engine is a Austin metro 1275cc.

Have you setup the free clearance on the clutch arm 0.50mm and then adjusted the overthrow nuts ? clutch fully down wind inner nut to touch the casing then 1 flat more and lockup

Can you explain this bit better please? Is there a release bearing there?

The release bearing is present, this has a polished appearance, basically looking as it's been used, where as the release bearing thrust plate, which is sprung onto the diaphragm doesn't appear to have worn at all. Looks to have been replaced and not worked since. can you fit a wrong diaphragm?

I'd normally suspect hydraulics, a look to see if the throw-out stop touches the "wok" usually gives it away (worn mechanical bits would show up the same way). If you have it part stripped, you could slacken the pressure plate bolts to release the driven plate - if it still rotates with the fly it could be the primary gear bush has seized on the crank.

It was the clutch master cylinder. Check the clevis pin at the pedal, any moisture is a tell tale sign.

Yes you'll need to adjust them again, after fitting a new arm.......
