get a micrometer on the journals, it will all makes sense.

I'm not convinced that with cold oil - pressure won't show even with std shells on a 10 thou undersize crank. Don't do anything till you get a gauge on it - and crank it up with plugs out till you see some oil pressure. You do have a relief valve and spring fitted - I hope...?

If the machine shop have ground the crank at all then standard bearing shells, mains and big-ends, will not be suitable. If the crank has just been micro-polished then the machine shop should have checked to ensure that the journals were within manufacturer's tolerances.
However, if you don't know how to size for the correct bearings, crank end-float, piston ring gaps, etc, it is best to read up on it before doing any engine building. It is not difficult, but does require some knowledge of what to measure and, of course, some accurate measuring kit is necessary. You need a 1" to 2" micrometer screw gauge and a DTI with a magnetic base. Also a set of imperial feeler gauges for measuring/checking piston ring gaps.

bit of an update for you all. talking to a friend of mine who was there when i picked up the engine after the machining work. he said he didnt think that they reground it. and actually, i do seem to remember them saying that they polished it.
anyway, fitted a mechanical gauge, filled the pipe with oil, turned it over and bam. 60psi
it dropped a little to 55psi but the battery is going flat now and it was turning over slower than usual.
so anyway, its looking good

Interesting to see then what its like fired up as the starter cranking speed is less than 200rpm, so I would expect to see more oil pressure
