Hi everyone

I'm looking at plans at sticking a new lump in my mini. Something I want to build up on the side then drop in later.

I want to use the existing subframes etc but other than the 1275 1380 engines route is there alternative engines I can fit from other manufacturers? I saw there was the 1800 engine on here but I would assume this isn't a straight swap :)

Sorry if my inexperience seems ignorant but I'm just looking for what people have done or at least what can be done. I know I could modify my 998 but ideall i'd like something on the side I could swap into i si when it is on the road again or at least mot'able I can make the change sooner rather than later.

The car will be mostly used at the weekend and for shows etc so doesn't need to be civilised ;)

One important thing to be considered is that the Mini is a Classic Car and as such will increase in value and desirability over the years. With a non A-series engine the value will be substantially reduced.
Imagine an E-Type with a Ford V8 engine (it was done!) and how it's value would be very reduced with a non-original engine.
In fact a good way to get a Mini at low cost is to find one modified with a non A-series engine for little money and convert it back to original power plant, sub-frame and body.
However, a 1275 is ideal for a classic Mini and re-engine from 998 is not considered in any way detrimental to its classic status.
