I've finally got my mini project Mot'd but have a bit of a snag list. One of which is this:

I have a 1976 shell & wiring loom with a 3 gauge central binnacle. The new engine is an Spi block with an HIF 44 carb with thermostat spacer plate. I have no water temperature sender for my gauge (I believe it would have been fitted to the Spi manifold?). Where can I fit a sender that will allow my gauge to work? Can it be in the blank hole below the thermostat on the front of the head or is there another way?

on my standard engine its at the front of the engine near thermo stat just below and to the left.

Yes you can put it there. On the SPi head this hole is not drilled and tapped. So you will need to drill it and get it tapped. Get a sender to check the thread. It is 5/8 UNF and ideally a taper thread.

I drilled and tapped mine in the end but before that used one of these......

 

 

If you can solder you can make one yourself from a bit of 28mm copper tube and a 1/4" or 5/8" boss sweated on to suit the sender dimensions.
