Can you transport a mini engine in a normal car or are they to heavy or awkward? The car in question is a mk4 golf diesel.

I used to take the passenger seat out the mini and move engines around! Mini engine in a mk4 golf will not be an issue provided you can lift it in and back out again

The worst bit is going down after the boot catch.

Easy. Had a whole unit in an old corsa a few weeks ago, in the boot. Take plenty of old carpet and strong cardboard to pack it out and stop it moving.

If there are anchor points in the boot of the golf then ratchet it down.

As has been said, lifting it in and out is awkward

I would have at least three of you. They are moveable with two but its a struggle. This is assuming you mean engine and box in one unit. If its just the engine then it's an easy one person lift with the head off.

I'd not want to lift an engine by hand with just two people..  Well I have a couple of times, but only to move it around the back of the house to work on, and that's a struggle!

Few years ago i went n bought a mini engine, popped the boot on my ford focus, turned round to help with the lifting/loading of it and the guy was stood behind me with the engine in his arms like it weighed nothing! I was shocked as its a struggle to lift them with 2 people as there pretty awkward lol

Me and my dad had that once when we went to pick up one of my ministox engines, then dad said he wanted it moved slightly, so rather than shuffle it, he picked it up again.

If its split up - gearbox, block and head - then its easy. I picked one up in an A3 a few years ago.

ok brill. I was thinking about getting a foldable engine crane and lifting it in/out/into mini that way. and yes the golf has got tie down points so im sure that will make it easier.

When I accidentally bought two complete engines (with gearboxes), we managed to fit both in the boot of a 406 saloon.
