I'd be cautious about spot welding repair panels - the MOT man probably won't like them.
They'll only accept spot welds where they were originally used by the manufacturer, all other repairs/welds should be continuous.

They will be mig'd too for extra strength once i get the mig going.  Although to be honest, by the time the welds are ground down and the repair finished, the mot man will never know they are there.

Well after a year untouched I went to visit ollie today and this is what I found. Looks like I need to tidy up after my dad has used it for storage.

I cant wait either.  I dont know whether to go completely standard as it came out the factory or change the colour and do a few mods.  There are loads of red minis around but i do like a standard cooper sport

Yes it's great to see another MPi being restored.  :-)  Standard would obviously please the purists the most but I agree with you on red Minis - they do look great (so no offense to red Mini owners haha!) but there are plenty of them around. What ideas did you have in mind for colour/mods?

Looks like a good build
I'm looking at getting another project and was thinking of investing in a spot welder for some of the seams etc as I found on previous builds that plugvwelding seems a lot if work for a pretty messy result.
How much did you pay for your spot welder and are their any pitfalls to avoid/or tips you found useful ?
I'm sure you will find time/money soon its looking good
