Woolwich Autostacker
Clip Duration: 01:10
The film shows an experimental automated multi-storey car-park, the Auto Stacker, built in Woolwich in 1961. Unfortunately the automated system never functioned properly and the ‘Auto Stacker’ was demolished just a year after it opened. Clip is taken from Prison on Wheels (1961).

Scooters
Duration: 01:14
The 1960s saw a rise in the popularity and ubiquity of the motor scooter. Many models were designed and sold with women in mind. Clip is taken from Scooter Commuter (1962).

The last few seconds of the carpark clip makes me sad

I'd love any one of those cars being butchered :(

Second clip: "If a scooter survives this sort of thing it should stand to mum popping out to the shops on it, even if she's a heavyweight! "  :teehee:

"Absolutely no chance of getting the wrong car back".  Yes I can see that, what can possibly go wrong with a clunky electro mechanical thing like that?  Designed in the '50s and built in the '60s? Imagine how long it took to get your car out while that thing slid gears about and moved thirty of forty cars out of the the way to put yours on the lift!  And imagine the queue at rush hour!  The modern circular towers (like at Wolfsburg) work because they never put cars in front of each other.  Has anyone ever travelled on a Paternoster?  Scary, frankly terrifying actually, '50s / '60s sort of cross between a lift and an escalator that must have injured a fair few people over the years.  The Autostacker really reminds me of them.
