For Sale: 1991 Mini City 998cc - £2950 ono.
I've made the very challenging decision to sell my classic Mini
it's a little bit heartbreaking, but unfortunately as we have two "toy" cars, it's necessary to buy a "grownup" car, and one of the toys has to go.

Classic mini's come in a number of different forms, mine is a 998cc, Rover Mini City, 1991 J reg in White.
I've had the car two years, having bought it off a friend who rebuilt the car from a rolling shell. Being built up from a shell it has had many new parts, and quality upgrades, including leather seats from a later mini (very comfortable!), wooden 2 clock dashboard, black dash rails, new black headlining and door cards, rear speakers, thick plush grey carpet all round. New front-end brightwork, headlamp rings, grille & surrounds.
It's a very sturdy little car and has served us well. Whilst only a 1 litre, the car has been properly tuned by a carburettor specialist and ex mini racer and pulls like a little train, starts every-time, has a cone air filter and an RC40 exhaust.
Whilst the car has been in our possession we have added/replaced the following:-
- Full conversion from 8.5" to 7.5" brake discs and calipers to allow 10 inch wheel fitment
- Added group two fibreglass arches (narrower than the original to accommodate narrower 10” wheels)
- Added 10"x5 Dunlop D1 wheels, with Falken FK07E tyres (these are brand new, less than a few weeks old and have done less than 100 miles!)
- Replaced windscreen wipers
- Added an MP3 CD capable stereo which also has an aux input and wired up the rear speakers in the parcel shelf.
- Front and rear bumpers have been replaced with stainless versions (the chrome ones pit and rust terribly), with the front having over-riders and corner bars for a more classic style
- We have placed a centre console inside the car (this can be easily removed if unwanted)
- The car also comes with a full leather interior (worth approximately £500)
Work done following MOT failure:-
- Steering rack gaiter changed
- Bolts in the rear sub-frame replaced.
- Expected tyres to fail hence the new wheels + tyres mentioned above
The car has since passed it’s mot, with 0 advisories.
The cars quirks:-
- The windscreen wipers work (almost too well), there is however a knack to turning them off, which I will be more than willing to teach you, if you wish to purchase the car.
- The wheels have recently been balanced, this has involved the placing of weights on the inside wheel wall. The front right wheel clicks as you drive (the weights are catching on the caliper), this is not causing any damage to the car, and did stop happening for a while...however has reappeared since the MOT and work being done on the car. You can get weights which are placed elsewhere on the wheel and this may be more appropriate if you wished to have them changed.
- There is a speedometer in the car, however the car does not read at the correct speeds, i.e. at 30mph it shows as 40 on the speedometer- this is a common mini issue...(my partner recalls neither his old, his current or many of his friends mini’s read the correct road speed!)
Unresolved issues:-
- A very minor issue is that there is a small chip/crack in the windscreen on the passenger's side- this I'm sure could be repaired by autoglass or similar, however a replacement windscreen also costs ~£20 (which is I think about the same price as an autoglass repair!)
- There are a few patches of rust/bubbling on the front end of the car which are detailed in the pictures, this is mainly along seams- whilst there is some rusting it is not unusual with the age of car and is mostly superficial. There are a number of years in the car before any panels would "desperately" need to be replaced.
- Where we have changed the arches from wider arches to narrower arches, there are some holes in the body work. This could be easily filled with body filler until such a time as any panels required changing.
- There is a slight scrape on the number plate light on the boot of the car (unfortunately due to our neighbour rubbing the back of the mini with their car- the bumper was also damaged, however this has been replaced)
The car has an MOT until 16.08.14 and is taxed to the end of January '14.
It will also come with a weatherproof cover, specifically tailored for the classic mini with tie-down straps that run underneath the car.
The car is located in Nottingham, 20mins from J24 of the M1 and 30mins from the A1 (Junc A52/Barrowby), if you would like to view the car or would like to make an enquiry, please email: [email protected] £2950 ono.
