[Was a Mayfair but not now]

Well when I drive my 88 mayfair with 1275 engine it drives super until I put the lights on then it seems to miss whilst accelerating . Lights are nice n bright and battery seems fully charged ? What could this be ? Thanx guys

coil not getting enough juice? check the battery voltage with a multimeter

I'm not sure, but it's worth a try. Someone will be along to tell you what the voltage should be, but if its not up to snuff you'll have to check the alternator/battery

First thing is check the fan belt for correct tension 12mm deflection on the longest side.

 

Have it running at 2500rpm and turn the lights on and take a reading off the battery terminals it should be 13.7v otherwise your not sufficiently charging the battery under load and then do the same on the main battery lead into the solenoid and the engine, if the reading is more than 0.5v difference then check the earth connection between engine and body.

 

Turn everything off and then do the same test and now I would expect 14.3v which is the upper end of the regulators setting.

 

Pop the plug on the rear of the alternator and check the terminals are clean and not burnt and check the security of the brown cables on the starter solenoid.

 

If you not seeing these reading its time to dig deeper

check the earth strap from the engine to the body,the one connected to the engine stabilizer,they often corrode and break.

apparently it was the coil only running 9v ballast. its now had a 12 v coil and been rewired. all is good now :) zooooooooooooom...... thankyou everyone for your help
