I have finally got the new engine in the mini and it runs ![]()
A long story but the timing cover on the 998 didn't have any timing indicators ( I threw the original one away by mistake and ended up using the one of the old Pre A plus) so it was only ever a best guess, but it ran fine.
The new engine has a new timing cover with the indicator "teeth" but on checking the megajolt & strobe, I seem to be around 4 degrees out even with the advance in the program set to the max 5 deg.
I need to take the rad out for some fettling (have a new metal fan which is catching slightly) so I have the chance to move the trigger ring a little.
In order to gain the "advance" I'm thinking I need to turn the trigger clockwise on the pulley just under 1 tooth???
I'm guessing also that unlike a dizzy, you leave the MAP pipe connected when checking the timing with a light???
Can someone confirm or advise please?
