I'm just thinking about what events to do next year (it makes a bit of a difference to what I do with the car now, for wheels & arches & other bits). Has anyone here done any of the sprint events at Anglesey in a mini, and do the straights feel a bit long?

I've driven the Coastal version of the circuit on track days and I like it, but I'm wondering if the National and International layouts are a bit open and fast for me with a road cam and only 100bhp or so - I think I'm about 20bhp down, 296 cammed Weberred 1380s with CR boxes seems to be around 5mph faster through the speed trap at Harewood, which would be about right if people are getting a real world 120bhp out of them. I think I can stay competitive at the twisty venues but could see myself being out of contention at Anglesey, which would drop it down the list a bit - especially as it's a fair old trek from Yorkshire with a trailer on.

Ask summs116 I know he has run at Anglesey a lot. We do, but in 280 horsepower caterhams8). The longer circuit does have two fairly long straights, maybe just swap your FD or drop gear ratios for something slightly taller?

Where's on your to do list next year then? It looks like my seasons over (possibly get the last round of harewood in if the cars sorted) but I reckon I might do a few different ones next year.

You run at Curburough before? Blyton near Lincoln is another I'm thinking of going to as they are more northern. Not sure Anglesey is in reach distance wise for us, but talking to a few guys at Three sisters, a mini would manage on the straights

Yeah, I'd be up for coordinating a bit, always nice to run with other minis. So far I've got:

  • Harewood definitely as it's my local and the only hill I know really well, I was thinking of the rounds that are on the Longton speed series plus maybe some more, probably the BARC practice day, maybe the DEWS round in the DEWS class depending on whether I've got a set of 1B tyres as well as 1A.
  • 3 sisters at least once, I like the look of it and remember liking it in a FF1600 when I did one of their race training days a few years ago, plus it's only an hour away.
  • Blyton I'm up for, one of the best things about Blyton (and Anglesey) is that you can get some practice in on track days, I've done one at Blyton and liked it. Also not too far away.

After that I'm a bit undecided, some maybes:

  • Crystal Palace, got some friends just round the corner and it's a nice couple of days with the club stands and show as well as the sprint. But, it's long way and it's List 1B tyres, so not really decided yet.
  • Maybe something down south off the DEWS calendar, bit if a trek though, and again it's 1B tyres to be competitive. There's Loton Park which is one of the furthest north.
  • Prescott is maybe doable, might need to stay over though. Not sure what tyre regs are, looks like a really nice hill though, I went and watched when I was down there a year or two back.
  • Curborough also looks good, I'd be up for that, also not sure about tyres vs events.
  • Anglesey maybe, bit of trek but nice and practicable (been a couple of times before).

I could be persuaded over to the East as well, Oliver's mount or Teesside Autodrome maybe, but I don't know courses or who organises stuff really.

Teesside is a nice track and suits minis. We were putting in some really good times up there. Its run by York motor club (well the round I did was, but there are a few clubs use it I think)

I'm going to try scammonden next year too. Short hill but apparently a nice little event. Quite local too I guess.
