Ht Lead Arcing Out

the centre ht lead that goes from the coil to the distributer keeps trying to arc out either from the rubber at the tip onto the coil or if I wrap that in tape, from the actual lead to anywhere it can, its a 998cc on an off road buggy,

is this likely to be a broken lead? The engine still runs fine with this arcing problem, any suggestions what to replace first ?

I would suggest a new lead

Check the turret for signs of cracking or small spider web tracks and put a meter on the leads and see what the resistance is, the tests for the coil and leads is in the FAQs under Electrical
