So Mini is due for renewal. I WAS with lancaster. They sent the renewal through, I wasn't happy so I canceled in writing. They then sent me a cancelation bill of £140? I argued it under the cooling off 14 day period and the fact I had not accepted the policy renewal. They came back and said I now owe them £36.00. I disputed it and they say this is a cancelation fee for NOT RENEWING!

Must say I am disappointed considering Lancaster are recommended Mini insurers!

Anyone else had a problem?

That's pretty poor, had the insurance started? I can understand the £36 charge if you had moved into the following year's insurance but if they charged you this before the renewal date then I would escalate the complaint using their complaints procedure and then onto the ombudsman. They shouldn't be allowed to do that IF you cancelled before the renewal date.

No the insurance hadn't started. So looks like I am going to have a little fight on my hands to dispute it, which is a tad annoying. It is principle though.

The customer service agent actually said to me, that what you get for cheap insurance. Which shocked me a little....

That's wrong, I've just cancelled a policy 10 days before the start date. Follow their procedure and log your time.

Good luck.

Their job is not to support the classic car scene (much as they try to make out it is) but to make cash for their rich shareholders. Young drivers are higher risk so they cherry pick older safer drivers.

They are well dodgy at the best of times. They try to make out do all this to support the hobby. But its all a fiddle really. They win every time. This case seems a simple one, a quick phone call to the insurance ombudsman would be worth doing if the OP gets no joy in a day or two.

this might not make sense. but bare with me... i think classic insurance is a bit like that special shampoo for men... its basically just the same as the standard stuff, but you actually pay more because you think its made for you, and that it will somehow be better...

Mini costs me £58 agreed at £3k 2000 miles a year, MGB GT is £67 agreed at £2.5k and 6000 miles a year. Age has some benefits!

Adrian Flux for one and Peter Best for the other. I always bounce them off against each other and that helps. I usually get the legal cover free and sometimes recovery too.

Thanks for that. I'm with Flux too.
