I made a few adjustments here and there tonight then took it for a quick run to see if all was well, and itsemms fine.
Now, when i am legally on the road i have to run the rebuilt engine in. At what speed, revs, etc should i do the next 250 - 300 miles. There are so many conflicting views on how to do this that i asked a heighbour, an old chap who raced minis many many years ago. He said " Do not let the engine labour but, give it some peddle through the gears as plodding along can do more harm than good".
All i need is some more feedback and i will go with the opinions that tally the most.
My engine spec is : 1275 block with offset bored to 1380cc with modded head, high lift roller rockers,Kent 286 cam, 1.75" maniflow LCB, RC40 system, hif44 with itg foam air filter, lightened flywheel etc etc.

After recently running in my first ever rebuild, I was also really worried!
I ran the engine at 2.5k for 25 minutes to let the timing gear bed itself in.. allowed the engine to cool and re-torqued head nuts.
next i took it for a test drive up the village.. reasonably light throttle, to make sure everything was okay, and then it was time to let her open a bit. Don't be too affraid to open up the throttle, but keep the revs reasonably low.
I kept under 3k for the first 150 miles, and under 4k for the first 600 miles. I decided to change the oil at 150 miles and glad i did. I know some people suggest waiting till abou 500 miles, but personally I'd not want to be running it that long.

im no expert on this, and i too have read a load of different opinions on whats best to do, but i think the best thing is to just be sensible with it!
keep it below 3k and dont labour it for the first few hundred miles, i would also agree with changing the oil after 150-200 miles too, lets face it, even when its run in you wont ever hurt an engine swapping that oil "too often"
i would check the colour of the plugs after a few miles on the road too, it will give you a good idea of how its running and how close the mixture is, you dont want it running rich and washing the bores, etc
