Just one as far as I know.

Or do you mean manufacturers like ASUS, EVGA etc?

No, I found out that different manufacturers of the Titan (ASUS, EVGA etc) have all set the clocks differently but there really isn't much in it I don't think...? is that right?

Well different manufactures may bump up the clocks to sell their card because it is slightly faster but this has always been the case, and you can do this yourself without much knowhow.

Thanks for your advice, does nvidia recommend you over clock graphic cards, if so by how much and is there software to do this by?

Not sure about the software but usually when you get a card you will get a disc with software on it that will allow you to set custom clocks on the card. The best way to find out how much you can clock by if googleing the card and the aftermarket cooler that is installed and then just monitor the temperatures.

I've over clocked my CPU without much fuss (by 600 MHz extra - with a bigger cooler) so I may do the graphics cards...

MSI afterburner is about the best piece of software for monitoring and tweaking graphics cards.

Although unless you already have the TITAN I wouldn't bother, they are insane cards, but they come with an insane price, and there are cards that will perform as well in any real world application that are much less.  if you really want to spend a silly amount on graphics, 2 x GTX780's will do a far better job, and be about the same cost as a single titan, hell the gtx 780's in SLI outperform SLI Titans in many tests

So if I got this right 780 SLI out performs Titan SLI?

Can Titans be cross-fired instead of SLI?

Crossfire is AMD's version of Nvidia's SLI.

My motherboard only supports Crossfire but I want to use 2 GeForce Titan graphics cards can this be done?

I want to say 'no' but I think it may depend on the motherboard being used. I think some high-end motherboards support both.

If you are getting two Titans then why not plump up a bit more cash for an SLI-compatible motherboard? A brand new motherboard is chump change compared to a single Titan, let alone two.

I'm going to go with 'no'. I did a bit of quick research and can't find any articles dated in the last year, which would be best.

Best thing to do is Google your motherboard make/model and put 'sli' on the end.
