I'm in the middle of building up a 1989 mini that has just come back from the spray shop........the rear subframe is from a mini sportspack(2000) along with koni shockers. The problem is that it seems to sit far too high, the shockers are at almost full travel when it's sat on its wheels. I've checked that the cones are sat in the frame correctly and all seems as it should be! Any ideas?

Cheers

The cones are from the same mini that the frame came from, the gap between the arch and top of the wheel is 6", it looks ridiculous. I've also tried one of the old cones in and it still sits the same height

is the knuckle joint seated correctly? does the suspension actually work or is it caught on something?

Yes the knuckle joint is seated correctly, I've checked all the usual things which is why i can't understand it being so high. The suspension is also working fine. I'm thinking of trying a pair of adjusta-rides

Wasn't the suspension of the Sportspack altered slightly to cope with the 13" wheels? I might be completely wrong with that....

Sounds like it is ok but make sure the cones are properly seated in the rear subframe - I bought a mini from a 'repuptable' mini dealer which had shocks fitted without seating the cone...this is dangerous and can make the car sit ridiculously high!

If that is OK then check the type of knuckle joint - late mini's use a 'revised' type with a built-in spacer to raise the car height (to overcome poor body panel shape / tyre clearances). If this is the case either replace the knuckle with the old non-spacered type, or as you suggest fit some hi-lo's.
