Basically, the battery on my iPhone 5 kept going flat from full in 4 hours, I was told by apple a few weeks ago, the phone hardware was all ok, and that it was something on my phone that was no good and causing it to drain, it was suggested that I wipe the phone clean and re-back it up from iTunes. Which I done, to no avail.

Anyway, after 3 trips to the apple store, my closest being around 50 miles away, I got so annoyed with the damned thing and itunes last night, it got thrown up the garden and then i shot it >_< so I bought a brand new one today. However, I plugged it into the computer to put my data on it, and the battery was draining just as quick. Battery seems to last a hell of a lot longer with nothing whatsoever on the phone, so I do believe its something on my software.

Does anyone know how I can get this iTunes crap to just transfer my messages and photos over, with nothing else, no apps, no music, just messages and photos?

A massive thanks to anyone that can help me

Cant you delete the apps and music on the phone itself? This is a program where you can select what you want to back up and restore as itunes can only back up everything on the phone or selected apps and music, not messages.

If you backed up to your pc not an issue, if you backed up to 'the cloud' then it restores everything. I'm no expert but.....have you thought about going into settings - general & at the bottom is 'reset'. This may be your answer, but surely the Apple Store can point you in the right direction?

Cheers

I think you can select what you want to import over when you connect it to your PC to sync it.

My battery went quickly too, but I set my email up so I only received messages when I "pushed" instead of it being automatic.

Also my colleague mentioned that when you've opened an app it runs in the background using up your battery. If you double click on the round button you can press and hold the app you want to close then close it down.

Hope this helps,
Ian

Firstly, tell ITunes not to auto sync with your phone (Id recommend doing this all by cable instead of over the air). This is done by selecting iTunes and then preferences. Click on the devices tab and there should be an option at the bottom to prevent iPods, phones and pads from syncing automatically.

Next make sure everything you do want, ie contacts etc is in the cloud. You need to make sure that there is nothing already in the cloud that you do not want. You can then reset your phone completely wiping everything. You should be able to do this via iTunes on your computer (obviously need to be connected at this point).

Then just sync your phone with the cloud and you should be good. If at any point you want just a couple of things on the phone, when you plug the phone in it comes up with the iPhone option near the top right of iTunes. Click on that and then you can select exactly what you want to sync.

iTunes is rubbish. I hate it. I'm a big Apple fan but my contract is up in January. I have an iPad Mini (shared with the gf!), a MacBook Air and both me and the gf have iPhone 4S. However, despite being caught up in the Apple Eco-system, both myself and gf will be switching to the latest Galaxy. It's sad to say, but IMO Samsung, HTC and Sony have all left Apple behind in terms of tech. The new iPhone needs to be hugely innovative or Apple might lose even more customers. The build quality and feel is probably still better than all but the HTC.

What Im trying to say is once you shot the iPhone, you should have got something different. You can even get software to sync an Apple computer with Android phones. Genius.

My wife has the new Galaxy and I find it the single most annoying piece of technology ever created.  Ever tried getting the photos off an Android phone?  If you do you might find out why the memory fills up so fast, there are 3 copies of every image that's ever been on the phone as a photo, email, web page, anything.  3 copies at 3 different qualities.  And when you delete them, they are still in there somewhere.
