Just wondering if anyone has used these before? They're exactly what I need but seem pricey at near 50 quid a pair :/

not used them but have seen them fitted, they look great but for me personally they take too much space in the footwell.

As for Optimise Automotive Products I've spoken with them at a couple of shows and there stuff seems well made and compared with others very reasonably priced.  I am planning on getting the centre console and armrest pieces from them when Project Loti reaches that stage. I can get both pieces from OAP for less than either single piece from Minisport.

I have a set of the AP pods in my mini with components. They are excellent, a little tricky to install (need 3 hands) but they are made well and the sound quality is very good! I would definitely recommend them. :D

Yeah I've heard decent things about them as well but not actually seen their products. Thanks for the reply :)

The best thing to do is have a read through the info on the website regarding the difference in sound quality between the pods.

Regarding the costs (to put this rather bluntly), if you think the open backed pods are value for money £25 then you can't say the AP pods are not value for money at £50 as they cost us £25 more to manufactuerer in (materials and time).

Anyway here are the three descriptions:

Open Backed Pods

Our open backed dash rail speaker pods are ideal for those of you who are looking to install speakers in the front of your Classic Mini easily and economically.

Open backed pods will produce adequate sound. However, we highly recommend that you research our sealed and AP pods before purchasing and if you can afford to stretch your budget that little bit further, we recommend installing either sealed or AP pods.

Sealed Pods

Our sealed dash rail speaker pods are ideal for those of you who are looking to install a good quality sound install into your Classic Mini easily and economically.

Sealed pods produce tight high notes because they do not allow the sound waves created by the back of the speaker cone to escape from the pod. This means sealed pods have excellent power handling capabilities, which makes them ideal for speakers designed to produce high notes (such as 4" speakers).

However, sealed pods do not allow the speaker motor to cool down. In addition to this, if you are installing speakers that are designed to produce mid to low notes (such as 5" and 6.5" speakers) sealed pods can sound 'tinny' (in comparison to AP pods).

To summarise, sealed pods will produce a perfectly adequate sound but if you are seeking a high quality ICE install please consider researching our AP pods.

AP Pods

Our AP (also known as aperiodic enclosures) dash rail speaker pods are for those of you who are seeking the ultimate Classic Mini in car entertainment install.

AP pods channel sound waves created by the back of the speaker cone into the listening environment through a membrane, creating the illusion of a large enclosure. A majority of after-market speakers are designed to replace standard manufacturer speakers, installed in door panels which have large enclosures. So, by creating the illusion that the pod is bigger than it actually is AP pods produce a better quality of all round sound (better high, mid and low) and are louder than sealed pods.

Please Note The membrane is located on the back of the pod and it is not obstructed by the speaker pods side panel or the inner wheel arch. This enables the speaker to channel sound waves through the membrane and into the listening environment, which allows the pod to work as it is designed to.

However, if you are installing speakers that are designed to produce high pitched sounds (such as 4" speakers) AP pods will not work effectively (in comparison to sealed pods).

To summarise, AP pods give you a louder, high quality all round sound and will generate better mid to low notes (in comparison with sealed pods).

I had read through that on your website, thanks for the post though. I was just after 1st hand advice is all as I'm currently tight on cash and would be most upset if something below my expectation arrived!
I placed an order for a pair the other day. Wasn't too happy to receive an email today asking for an extra £10 postage (on top of the 11 quid P&P i had already paid) because its to the Isle of Wight- almost cancelled my order all together...
Anyway I look forward to receiving my parcel :)

P&P is £10.50, not £11 - so you have saved yourself 50p there without knowing it... bonus money (don't spend it all at once). Plus the clue for the delivery method is kind of in the name "UK Mainland" ;D

On a more serious note, details of all the P&P prices can be found in the "Delivery & Payment" section of the website, including details of the Isle of White surcharge - sorry if you missed it, unfortuately all we can do is provide the information, it's down to the customer to read it.
