Ok, the hubs I have are mini hubs, or are they? How do I tell them from a metro ?

The Metros which I have seen all used an entirely different type of ball joint, which was a complete assembly which screwed into a tapped hole in the hub. See here:

Obviously yours has ball joints assembled from a kit of parts, which makes it a Mini hub.

So I decided to go down the 10's road. Got some minisport 7.9 calipers, got a friend to turn my disc down to suit them. Whent to fit them this morning, only to find the caliper hits the disc. Not in a the disc is to big(needs to be turned down some more)but in the gap for the disc is in the wrong place, by about 10mm. Please tell me I just need some different drive flanges and which ones  O_O

Are the calipers for vented discs?
If not then that's your problem.
Oh and if the calipers are hitting the drive flange then you will need metro ones which stick out further. I had to use them when doing my fiesta conversion.

Just checked and they are the right calipers, vented type.

it looks like you have metroturbo drive flanges, I thnk you need mini 8.4" (84 onwards) drive flanges.

What is actually hiting the caliper?
Metro drive flanges are further out than standard mini ones so that shouldn't be the problem.

The caliper is hitting the disc, so changing the drive flange would make sense.ie the cutout in the caliper is in the wrong place. Too late for a photo !

Best to get a photo up.
You putting the calipers on the right side(sorry to sound rude). shouldnt make a diiference except for bleeding
The calipers shouldnt touch the drive flange. Minisport ones are ok with standard drive flanges.

I remember reading about the pads needed to be filed down on the corners.

I spoke to someone at minisport yesterday and he said the inside face is also turned down to compensate for the offset. I have emailed them for more information.

hmmmm,

Ive seen stuff where the face of the disc needs machining where it meets the drive flange, but you need to know what your doing here as some discs have spare material and some don't.

Hi, here is a photo of the new caliper held up against the disc. As you can see the caliper does not line up with the hub , by about 5mm. The disc flange is just under 18.25mm thick. I know I would have to measure the gap properly. I just don't have time tonight and it is a little cold working outside
