Hello fellows!

I am going to fit in my mini the Wing side repeater (http://minispares.co...|Back to search

) and i don´t know exactly where it is the correct position.

Does anyone have some background in order to position well? Pics will be really helpfull!

Best regards!!

Hi, if you don't have the holes already in have you thought about maybe mounting them somewhere else, like on the A-panel maybe? :D

I hate the repeaters on later Mini's, spoils the line of the wing IMO

I would like to have some advice on how to install them, e.g.: plan, instructive, best way to drill the holes, and so on...

Regards!

i personally am not a fan of side repeaters either... especially the big square ones. although because my mini is an 88, i had to have them, so i got these from 'car builder solutions'

i think they look much better  :D, and no, they dont have to be in a certain place

I personally wouldn't fit them on the wing as they have dictatated where my current arches had to go. I wanted mine to be higher on the wing, but had to have them below the indicator hole (unless I was going to weld up yet another hole!)

I would have them on the a panel, and they are between the wheel and door area on most cars these days anyway.

Right.
1. you need to make a template - I would use a cereal packet, Put the light on it's side on the card and mark some dimensions - each end of the light and the position of the cable (looks like it's central between the ends). I would then try to draw a rectangle using these dimensions on the card.
There will be some way that it mounts/clips onto the wing - u need to re-create this on your template. Don't worry about messing up, you can always use your old template as a er, template for your new template.
Basically, we're aiming to be able to clip the light to the cereal packet :D

Once you have this done. Make another template for the wing. you need to try to re-create the curve of the arch & the edge of the wing-A-panel seam. lots of trial cutting & testing & you should get there.
Right, so, er, use masking tape to stick this large template to the car. Then get a friend & a piece of string. Your friend holds the string at the top of the rear wheel arch and you hold the string at the top of the front arch. Then mark in a few dots corresponding to where the string sits on the template. Then draw in the line with a ruler.

Then you need to decide where you want the light to go. You can do this on the car & draw a few rough lines on the main template. Or you could draw a line at 90* to our string-line level with the top of the arch. Then refix to the car & you with have a line guide for the centre of the light. Just decide how high you want it.

With that done you need to transfer the smaller template to the larger one. Once done I would reinforce all of the important edges, the A=panel edge, arch-edges & light mounting hole with some masking tape :D

you will now have a template that will work on both sides of the car, go round the other side - the template 'should'  fit the other side of the car, check to see if it looks right/same as other side, it 'should' :D

back later with more instruction  by the way. I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it, it's maybe how I would do it if I was you :)

Do you have a friend with a Mini with indicators in the wing? If so you could make a template off this.

Or do you know anyone with genuine sports pack arches? As these have the indicator area marked out already you could use these as a template.

Hope this helps.

except - that indi won't fit in the sportspack arches, Ian, it's a different type

friend with a Mini is a good idea though, IF they have the exact same arches as Javi :D

PS. What a strange username you have, Ian, I hope that means you are into a bit of spanking

Why would you want them fitted to a car that doesn't have them?

Has ANYBODY read the original post properly?

What I read is he wants to fit the side repeater from the specials and export models, probably for originality or to build a replica of something.

I'm sorry OP I cannot help. But I reckon you could probably take some stategical measurements from pictures and scale them up.

Yes I did read it properly but as no-one was forthcoming with any info I thought I'd give Javi info on how to sort it himself :D

Oops!

Mastered the art of reading but obviously not opening links and checking which type of indicator, presumed it was the standard type.

Sorry OP!

Thank you very much to everybody!! All younsaid is really helpfull. I want to fit this repeaters because i like it very much despite of having an austin mini 1000 HL that didn'y have it originally. I will probably make some measurements in both sides and drill the holes very carrefully for the repeaters. I like it just in the on top and at the middle of the wheels. Right now i am reassembly the engine because i took it off because i had a leak at the clutch oil seal but as soon as i fit the repeaters i will send a photo to you.
Anyway, if you have more ideas or photos i will apreciate it very much!
Regards and sorry about my not very good english!! :P
