Can be coming for a leaky screen rubber, a rotten scuttle panel, and leaky grommets where the pipes meet the bulkhead

It maybe coincidental that its coming from the heater box as this maybe a matrix leak but also the windscreen seal could be perished allowing water in and down onto your carpet.
However if the bonnet seal is poor water may have run down onto the bulkhead crossmember and then run down the heater pipe and into the heater box / car.
First thing to do is obviously find the leak. Now a mini can literally leak like a sieve. For example as well as the above the door check strap seal on the A post could be damaged. The drain holes in the doors could be blocked allowing water to build up in the door cavity and then if the door membrane is damaged flood into the car.
The door seals could be leaking through damage or age.
So if the leak is not obvious you will need to strip out a few bits of insulation and maybe the door panels. Get a friend to liberally spray the car with a hose while you are in the car trying to find the leak.

Wet front carpet = one of...
Cabin heater matrix leak. Does it feel/smell like coolant, or rainwater?
Door seals
Door check arm seals
Rust at bottom of doors making them porous at the bottom
Blocked/missing door drainage holes
Plastic sheeting inside door missing or broken, allowing water to soak into door cards and drip out the bottom inside the car
Metal strip outside window missing or mis-aligned
Door alignment
Oversills (if you have them) filling up with water and rusting through the floor
Holes in bulkhead/fitch/scuttle panel
Windscreen rubber not sealing properly, especially at bottom where it joins the scuttle
Sunroof leak
I'm sure there are more

could be hitting the windscreen and running into the engine bay via the gulleys (heavy rain filling them completely) and along the heater pipes into the car. Inside of my car gets soaked via the engine bay when i wash it as the water goes over the little lips
