Hi everyone i noticed my subframe is making a squeeqy cracking noise whenever my car jerks, ie creeping in 1st gear etc... Turns out that one of the bolts on my front trunion is loose and it wont tighten up. I have stripped the threads, so my plan is to cut a flap in my sill, put a longer bolt through the trunion and pass it through the first nut and then put a nut on the end of the bolt once its gone through the first nut. Then tighten it up then reweld my sill up. I want peoples opinions on this as i doubt my welding skills would be good enough to hold on a new captive nut for very long.
Thankyou luke

So next time you need to undo the Bolt you have to cut open the sill? It's no more difference to weld in a nut

Ah yes very good point, one option would be for me to bore a small hole in the bottom of the sill and place a bung there which would be handy for draining any water trapped :)

You can also do this by cutting a hole above the bolts from inside the rear storage bins, obviously works better if it's the top bolt that's a problem.

Thanks for your help guys bluffin what size helicoil did you use? Did you obvioussly take the trunnion off first? If i remember rightly all id need to do is undo both trunnion bolts and the radius arm nut to get the trunnion off.... I think :/

There really is not sufficient material for a helicoil to be honest as you will be using some of the old captive nut if its still there.

The best option without welding as mentioned already is to cut a large enough hole in the inner sill stiffener to get a spanner in there to fit a loose nut.

It was done while at Brunswick motorsport being set up and corner weighted, so not sure how it was done, seems to have worked :)

oh and they fitted it with a metric thread
