Has anyone bought a "UVI Group" PKE Keyless Entry System?  They're selling well on ebay and have many pleased customers but I thought I'd ask the question here to see if there are any 'gotchas' etc.

My car already has the central locking "motors" so I'm trying to fathom out how to connect the system to my current central locking bits.

The system is the basis for lots of different units (which I believe are sold to security vendors but with their own stick-on label - if you get my drift).

Here's an example:-

(the empty bits in the box are for their start button system - which I didn't need so this is the actual model I have,  under the plastic section there's about a mile and a half of different coloured cables!)

hmmm does this system have a fail safe incase of vehicle battery failure? (dead battery)

if not, how do you access the vehicle in the event of the aforementioned?!

I think central locking is probably the best option.  If you are at shows and stuff, do you really want your car unlocking whenever you are close?

Maybe, but as this is the Mini technical section, one would assume we are not talking about Fords!

Yes - indeed  - you still have your old key.  I think its a bit too brave going for keyless socket as well

This model has an immobiliser and alarm (works by 'shock').

Plus the PKE thing means you only have to walk near your car and the doors unlock.

The doors lock again if you are in the vicinity and you haven't opened and shut the door

You can probably see from my posts that I have cracked it (as in solved it - not trod on it!)

A bit of trial and error getting it mated with the built in central locking though - a few sparks and some blown fuses!

I'm still in the middle of sorting out the rest of the car's electrics so I haven;t stress tested it - however...

1) It's rather flashy that as you walk away you hear it all lock up

2) When approaching the vehicle it unlocks roughly at the time your hand reaches the door

3) When you hold the footbrake for 5 seconds the doors lock

4) The doors unlock when you turn the ignition off

I've got the indicators to flash bit I'm not wiring in the horn at this stage.  Example - when you reconnect the battery it spends some time locking - unlocking - locking the door.  Not sure why.

Here's a question though....

You can wire it to your e/windows so they shut when you walk away from the car - pretty neat eh?

Well - maybe.

It basically 'holds down' the window up button. For 12 secs

I'm a bit concerned that closing the windows for 12 seconds when they are up could do some harm to the motors etc. Am I right to be worried?

If yo want an opening boot it lets you do that too (a bit redundant on the mini unless you want to let the boot descend down at an alarming rate!(.

So... so far I recommend this product however I haven't "lived with it" proper bit for what I have seen of it so far - however it's a lot of kit for not much outlay
