I fitted new rubber cones on the front end of the car about April/May (I can't remember exactly when) with brand new genuine ones as the old ones were worn and the front end was riding every low. We are here now in September and the new cones have dropped to that height again or maybe even lower. Now in my opinion, I know that new cones will settle in a few weeks which they did but continued to settle and genuine cones shouldn't drop this much in that short of time. They have dropped that much that they are causing damage on my drivers side wing like creasing due to the tire scraping the wing. It's got to the point I'm taking my car off the road for a few weeks to change the wing.

I know that having no bump stops is the cause of damage to body work which I have got new ones (now its too late oops) and I also bought some hi-los to lift the front end up.

So the first question is will the hi-los fix this problem?

The second question is are the cones a bad pair or is this normal ?

Is their any other reasons that the front has dropped so much (something else worn/needs replacing)?

Hope this makes sense and if you need more information, I will try to answer as clear as possible

Thanks

Brad

When I re-built mine I set the suspension up to look 'right'....

Since then (say six months on the road ~500 miles) I have had to adjust them about five times as they have settled down so much and started 'bottoming out' over bumps  - luckily I have Hi-Los so it is just a case of whipping off the wheel and putting another five flats on to raise the car...

It seems to me that if this continues I will fairly soon run out of adjustment...

The solution is a set of HiLo's. You must always run with bump stops as if you hit a bump without serious damage can be caused.

Thank you, I'm glad I've bought some HiLos now. Will be fitting them asap along with my new bump stops.

Then it's onto repairing the body work.

What make are the rubber cones? Too much dropping sounds suspicious.

Did you replace the knuckle joints at the same time as the cones?

Not sure to be quite honest with you.

No, I bought them at the same time but I just couldn't get the old ones out of the trumpet. So I left them and put the new cup things in the top arm where they are supposed to go.

Having bought original ones they are taking ages to settle so it sounds to me you have defective cones. Take them out to see what is going on. I have had to use Hi lo's to get a decent ride height not to physically lift the car.

This needs looking into sooner rather than later before they potentially fail altogether.

I had a look at the reciept from mini spares and they are defo genuine. But I got my dates completely wrong. I actually bought the cones in november last year so I'm very sorry for guessing the wrong date. But that is still a very short ammount of time to drop that much. When I go to fit the hilos, ill check it out.
