Hi,

Following a buy with my heart and not head I am the proud owner of a 1993 1.3 SPI Cooper with 34K Miles on the clock, The chap I brought the car off online advertised the car as having all the welding completed and needing rubbing down to repaint the photos advertised were very cleaver I know now not to take anyones word again.

once I had got it collected as soon as it was coming off the transported I started to think what have I done, then started lifting the glued down carpets it all started going wrong the floors, sills had been filled with filler and covered with over sills. The new rear valance was poorly fitted, the new A Panel had been seam welded down the inside a post (Sure this is not correct) and the list goes on.

I will upload photos of my findings and some very shoddy work.

Work completed so far, Removed rear subframe and started pealing off the sills, I am hopefully getting a Roll Over Jig the weekend so the engine will be out and then on this.

So Far my list of replacments parts

Over sills are one of the worst things to fit, common for quick mot repairs and the inner sill is then only replaced with a cut out panel around the bins and cross member. All looks fine but doesn't last long. When I restored my first mini over 25 years ago no full inner sills were available and I had to make my own, but at least they are still ok now so must have done something right. Hope you got it cheap as it will take a fair amount of work to repair properly but at least then you will be confident all is ok. Best of luck with getting it sorted.

Sounds like you're moving in the right direction.

Good luck with saving this and putting it back on the roads.

There will be a fair bit to chop out. Are you going for a full floor?

When I started I was going to do just the sills to first flute then as it got worse went to  floor pans with sills on and healboard but reading lots of project pages I get the feeling a complete floor is the better option and weighing up the costs of the panels, welding materials and the time the complete floor whilst a larger outlay make more sense and will be a proper job.

Progress Today, The engine and front subframe have been dropped out, fuel tank and lines out and back on the spit, need to get the pedal box out but those pins beat me for today so will try again in the wee when less stressed

Lots more rust found two in the a post, under the scuttle panel closing and some bulkhead Will get some photos up tomorrow

It does sound like a full floor is needed. I went the separate panel route with Project Erm and what a pain in the arse that was.

Good luck with it lots to do.

Good luck with this one though, gonna be a long project i think.

Edit.

Actually, think its time to teach him how to replace panels now! This should be fun!

I did the full floor & found it quite straight forward once the bracing was in. I also used a similar spit jig later on to finish all the external welds, very useful. Good luck.
