Having recently purchased a Z Car VTEC Mini I'm playing the game of chasing down a few legacy issues from the previous owner.

The expensive one at the moment is that I was told by the previous owner that there is an exhaust mount missing.  This is causing added strain on the manifold ending up in cracking and eventual breakage:

I've had the manifold welded and strengthened but it has gone again.

Where about should this mount be on the original Z Car kit guys?

the exhaust mounting should be located below the silencer you can just see it in the image

replacments are available to buy for £10 you will also need 2 rubber mounts these are also available for £2 each (+ vat & postage )vtecracelarge.png

I have that mount in place Steve.  I have the 4 - 2 - 1 system fitted.

Is there no other mounting point on the 4 - 2 mid section?

It is the strain on this that is causing it to self damage.

I've asked a local firm to fabricate a mount this afternoon so will report back with some photos later :)

Here's the additional mount we've added and popped some strengthening in.

Hopefully this stops the wiggling :)

To add to what Steve was saying you can decrease the amount of movement by fitting what are known as solid mounts, the are not actually solid, they are made from similar material to skateboard wheels and have a hardness 'A' rating as well. I have fitted 75A solid mounts in mine and there is virtually no movement in the engine under load or engine deceleration (as witnessed during dyno session). If you do order some you only need a front and rear mount and if you can afford it get the billet versions as I spent hours f-ing around with a mild steel version that the hole was a mile out.

maybe contact Innovative and see if they can supply only front and rear billet?
