Hi guys, this is post number two for me!

Just wondering whether there are any feasible methods of storing a project car outside (I don't have a garage - neither can I afford to rent one at the moment), however I do have a parking spot with my flat, so was just wondering whether it's (probably!) worth waiting until I can store a potential project indoors? Unless there are sufficient (cheap!) methods out there of course...

Many thanks in advance for all your help,

The problem is keeping the damp out. There will be periods where bits or all of the shell will be bare or in primer and rust takes hold very quickly. There are canvas type car shelters that completely cover the car but I have never tried one so don't know how good they are.

I have seen ones that have a cantilever type mechanism so you can open them up one end. I will try and find a pic.

It depends on how long the car will be a project for? Short term? Long term? When i built my ClubVan, i did it on a gravel drive, from start to finish in a few months, luck was on my side weather wise, so it can be done, but over winter (which will be here soon) it will be better to keep it indoors

Thanks guys, I guess probably a couple of years (at least) depending on when it's bought/funds to restore it which is why I thought waiting might be a better option (which I'm fed up of doing!)

In a private (locked with gate) area for residents; is that classed as highway? Thanks

Hi, have you looked at carcoon. they do outdoor inflatable... sort of tents. They control the inside atmosphere and run on a 12volt supply so condensation due to temperature change is not an issue. Quite pricey though, the only plus is that as its for a mini you will need the smallest car size they do.

its not fun, it is possible though.

I've got a land rover which I'm rebuilding which is well and truly stored right out in the elements. Occasionally when doing important jobs I put a pop up gazebo over it to stop me getting so wet, otherwise it lives under a tarp.

I have two on my drive both have car covers
When i work i pop up a gazebo unless its blue skies
Its not the best but it works
If you have money for a pop up garage or a carcoon go for it

That's all fantastic info, thanks very much guys! I like the idea of the carcoon, do you reckon the Size 2 Outdoor Carcoon would be big enough, or go for a Size 3 (regular)? It's reassuring to know that I wasn't alone considering outside storage.

Yes he did but Graham still had some issues with moisture and rust starting again.
