I'm pretty sure you can't use mk1 glass on the mk3 doors as the mk1 door were slightly smaller but you can buy a conversion kit from somewhere ...

You can buy a conversion kit, then get the matching perspex windows

Sorry to tell you but it can't be done.

The MK1 / MK2 windows are a different size (smaller) than the Mk 3.

You could try having some Perspex ones made in the correct size to fit, all the other parts , door channels , catches etc are available new.

If you did use Perspex , you would need a slightly longer upper window channel than standard, to allow for the glass section being approx an inch taller.

Hope this helps.

Yes it can.

Check out the windows on this Clubman. It has standard Mk1/2 glass fitted. The lower channel was raised up to allow for the shorter mk1 windows.

It was done to replicate this works Clubman

Well I stand corrected then !

I was referring to standard doors and windows, but I do like the way it's been done on that clubman.

I sourced all the bits and even cut myself some windows from a sheet of 4mm poloycarb (I had to by 2 sheets for £60, so still have a full sheet left) a few years back for £100 all in. plus the only modification needed to the doors was to flatten over the flange at the top of the door fro something to screw the mk1 chrome channel to. I have been meaning to try and source a full set of proper mk1 glass and make them fit, as the 4mm poly carb isn't too secure security wise.

Nope they are genuine mk1/2 hinges and not the expensive plastic fake.

All I did was throw the standard mk3 hinges in the bin, weld on mk1 internal a panels with the extra brackets as per a mk1, then weld a mk3 a panel over the top (as per a mk1) and then drilled and bolted up the hinges.

Perspex and poloycarb aren't the same. Also quite a few modern cars have poloycarb side and or rear windows as standard and most rally cars with plastic windows have to have a valid mot...

Wrong. It can be made from other materials aslong as it is correctly E marked by the manufacturer.

See section 45 in the IVA manual

https://www.gov.uk/g...tion_manual.pdf

  1. . Windscreens, windows and side-screens where fitted must be securely attached to the vehicle.

 2. Windscreens, windows, internal glazed panels and side-screens where fitted must be suitable for its use. (see note 1 & Table 1)

3. Windscreens must be "Safety Glazing" made from glass and display the relevant markings. (see note 2 and table 1)

4. All other windows (including sunroofs and removable glass panels) and side-screens must be "Safety Glazing" (which may be made from glass, or from plastic) and display the relevant markings. (see notes 2, 3,4 and table 1)

5. Windscreens and windows wholly or partly on either side of the drivers seat must allow a visual transmission of at least 70%, or 60% in the case of an armoured vehicle. (see note 5)

I have to add that i said 'perspex' to refer as generic plastic windows, actually mines are not perspex but 4mm lexan polycarb and they have homologation.

I should have said that the marking was the important thing. Glass, even safety glass, is not legal either unless it carries the correct markings.

So where do you get plastic (i.e. polycarbonate or even perspex) with the correct markings applied? For that matter, where do you get non-standard sizes of glass, legally marked? (It used to be easy before the markings became a requirement, now it will be more difficult as the marking has to be applied by the manufacturer.)
