hello all,
My 1989 Mini Thirty (swapped for 1275 metro) has had an oil leak developing for several months.
this is my first mini, first car and first post.
Got a little ridiculous the amount of oil it was eating.
So timing cover gasket needed doing.
Finished sealing it up today.
when re-assembling i noticed the thread on one of the smaller nuts for the water pump has gone.
Does anyone know what size and thread they are? And im unsure on where to get them, other than the net. Haven't drove her in almost 3 weeks and she's my only transport, need some asap.
Also...
When removing the engine mount i had a problem with one of the bolts, the thread was knackered and the nut was stuck in an infinite loop.
So, went out and got a nut splitter which i couldn't fit over the bolt due to engine mount blocking it, so borrowed an angle grinder and took the head off it.
After doing the gasket
I stuck another bolt in to then have trouble lining the engine mount up.
So i figured i'd attach the mount first, then bolt it to the sub frame.
Went to undo it the bolt, and the thread has gone again. Same place, new bolt, new nut.
Any ideas why this keeps happening? wasn't particularly rough with it. i don't like using an angle that close to my brake lines (not enough space for a saw).
And I'm not sure if when i put some more oil in her if she'll leak again. so i really dont want that+another bolt thread kackered and some more dubious power tools involved
Sorry for the blabber but better too much than too little.
Thankyou!
