In the old white Vizzard book he says the relationship between adjustment of the trumpet length and ride height is 1 to 3 on the front and 1 to 5 on the back.  So if you shorten your front hi-lo by 1mm car will drop by 3mm.

 

From experience would you say that is true?

 

Ive never found it so, but thats probably because it takes a while to settle and you cant take an instant measurement.  I think what ive found is that i adjust it a little, doesnt make a different, adjust a little more, still no difference then a little more and its suddenly too low.

 

(by the way I always measure ride height to the crease on the sill, if that maks a difference.)

It needs a while to settle again after taking the weight off the cone but should do so with a short drive around the block, if you do it static then once moved it will settle.

For the backs whenever i have adjusted i just pull on the hand brake and rock it forwards in first gear, pulls the back down, then take it for a drive. It's usually settled by then, unless the cones are new.

Has anyone measured the amount hi-lo is shortened versus how much the car drops by?

It's as you stated, but it will never be perfectly accurate. The 1:3mm and 1:5mm ratios are to be taken with a pinch of salt. Setting up hi-los on new cones, or even old cones is all trial and error. Don't bother measuring the trumpet lengths. It generally doesn't work.
