Hey all,

So, I have recently installed a 1978 Mini 1275gt engine into my clubman...and the engine judders at low revs, sometimes violently when moving from rest.  The engine sounds perfectly normal at higher revs with no vibration whatsoever.

Before installing the engine, I have replaced the clutch and installed a new blue diaphragm spring, together with a brand new release bearing.  The release bearing only lasted for five months, after which I picked it up in pieces from the clutch housing....so I decided to replace the flywheel and pressure plate with those I had from another engine....and the vibrations were all gone!! The car drove like never before!!! However, this did not last very long...the car started to make small vibrations again, and I am afraid that if I'm not careful enough (i.e. I have to drive at higher revs to stop the engine vibrating), then it won't take too long for the new release bearing to fall off again!

anyways, I really need some help...the carb needle is AAE I think, distributor cap, leads and plugs have been replaced one month ago, electronic ignition installed and perfectly timed (no pinking and turns on after half key-turn)...

so....what could be causing the problem??

Thanks

Jeremy

Does the rev counter bounce around when it's juddering? If so it is likely to be ignition related. If not it may be fuelling related. My car was juddering badly under load and it turned out the coil ht lead was not fully pushed in.

what sort of condition are your engine mounts in? if the clutch side one has gone soft, it will make the engine judder like mad under acceleration. it drove me nuts for about a month before I sussed out that one!

I have just replaced both lower engine mounts with new ones last march....so its definitely not an issue...today I shall clean the carb and perhaps try another coil, and see what happens...this is really driving me crazy!
