When i bought my mini it had been sat in a garage for 19 years doing nothing, it was rally prepared and i was undecided as to get a respray or keep it as i found it.
I chose the latter as a mark of respect to its previous builder and owner who rallied it and, who unfortunately is now in a retirement home not knowing what is going on,
But i got a quote out of interest from a local company of £800 for a total repsray that would have been superb as i have seen the quality of work this company can produce.
The car is still in its original livery.

A proper body shop with booth and complying with all current health and safety is going to be a lot more expensive than a smaller concern with a basic booth, both can get good results dependant upon skill of sprayer, but most is in the prep and that's where a lot of money will be spent. I had to have a rear bumper sprayed on my daily and I was quoted £450 + vat, I got it for half price as I was having some other work done with someone else's insurance, but this did include remove and refit of bumper and painted in water based with 2k clear, the materials for a full respray can also add up so add in labour and 2-3k is easily spent. If you find someone to do it as a cash job in spare time then £800 is a possibility but at this price some of materials used would have been booked on someone else's job.

In the last week I've spoken to two places about the cost of respraying a rolling shell (everything stripped off, and as much prep already done as possible). One said starting at £1700 (but that wouldn't include underseal and it sounded like the price could go up "depending on what I wanted"), and the other quoted £2500 - £3000.

You could always apply stonechip and roller the underside to help keep costs down,

Its impossible to give a price without a close inspection of the car at a paintshop.
There is too many factors.
what type of paint do you want?

what type of paint is on?
were do you live,? big differences in labour cost and running costs.

what repairs have been done? more hours needed to prep those areas.

is it to be painted in a spray booth and will it be dried in a oven.
will it need a isolator coat?
will it need any parts removed?       you get the idea now.
the prices given on the forum are from people who have had work done to their mini but there are to many variables to say it will cost the same for your car.

I would consider these guys if i were you.

It would be worth the drive, i had just my exterior done, all the repairs and new panels with a spray/flat/polish came to £1000, and the parts were £400. They told me that they usually charge around £2000 to do a full refurb, thats including subframes off and painted, engine out, everything. And they do all of it.

I went for a quote last week and for a stripped car basically as a rolling shell (engine and ancillaries out) with a few knocks where people have opened their car doors and a dent or two to be knocked out on the roof. I was quoted between £800 and £1200 depending on the labour to knock out the dents. This is a price for a car that I've welded and changed the panels and taken care of the rust. They will do the prep and paint. The eta was about 2 weeks depending on workload a week if the are quiet in January.

On another note I was also quoted £40 a wheel for a refurb which I thought was pretty sensible.

I received another quote for £1500 starting price and they were not very interested, more bothered in their insurance work. It depends on where you live. I live in north notts/ south yorks border.

Your cost will depend on base or metallic whether it's all one colour or a Cooper like mine in solar red with a white roof and how busy they are.

Always ask to see current work and paint stages as well as the booth they use. If they won't let you see current examples or you don't get a really good feeling, walk away.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. This was an inside and outside spray paint in 2pack paint.

They did also discuss the option of painting then wax oiling whilst they were doing it then spraying over the top of that as well for an as new look. This would be for the £1200 end though not the £800 and would need to be done in January for that price when they are quiet.

All photos to be taken at each stage.

hope this helps, Thanks.
