Hi Everyone,

Thanks in advance for any information given. This is more of a quick question than a deep, technical one. When replacing the clutch release bearing, should there be any play between the bearing and the shaft? Or should it be so tight as to not be able to move side to side at all?

The reason I ask is that I have replaced the bearing, however I am not sure if it's the correct fitting, as I can move the bearing side to side on the shaft. The movement is only about 1/2 a centimetre or so, but I am still not happy unless I have a definitive answer.

So to summarise, should the clutch release bearing, when on the shaft, be able to move side to side at all, or should it be a tight fit as to only be able to slide off the shaft if needed, and not move side to side at all?

If more information is needed I am happy to help.

Thanks kindly in advance for any help.

1/2 a centimetre? As in 5mm? Sounds like way too much!

Is it a verto or pre-verto clutch set up?

Thanks for the reply. I measured more accurately to be sure and got an average of around 2mm either side.

It's also a pre-verto clutch.

Sounds a lot, most pre-verto release bearings are a snug fit and need to be pressed on using a vice.
I think the ones held with a clip may be a slightly slacker fit, but not really loose.
