hi all, I need some advice I have a Mini one 2003,,  47000 miles on clock, it has developed a slow coolant leak, no signs of any drips or obvious loss, having to top up the header tank every 150 miles appox, searched all over the net for answers,  a few people have posted the same question about trying to trace a slow leak, had the local garage do a pressure test... result no  pressure loss, no crack in the header tank...  fitted new mini radiator cap still have a slow leak, reading the forums it is a problem that quite a number of Mini one owners have experienced, I am reluctant to take it to the Mini dealership due to their high charges, I read on one post that a Mini one owner had part after part changed and still has not solved the problem by the Mini dealer garage at an extortionist cost,  any suggestion's would be approached

thanks in advance

This forum is aimed at classic mini owners. You would stand more chance of an answer on one of the forums dedicated to new minis. Good luck.

99% its the thermostat housing leaking.

Typical on MK1 binis.

Get a new one and make sure you get the one with a greyish rubber seal, not the white one.

Crabman, as Jaydee said, a very high chance it's the thermostat housing. Could just be the gasket though, had them perish before. Replaced several on both R50s and R53s, not too hard a job, remove air box, disconnect pipes, remove old housing, fit new one. Pretty simple, send us a message if you need any more help.

im sorry crabman but most of the people on this site dont know much about the BMW MINI's and although im glad you have got some good advice here (i think its good i havent got a clue if its good or not to be honest as i dont know) but i think you would get more help and assistance from a BMW MINI forum. i have asked and some other people too that we have a link up somewhere with these forums on but it was decided by above not to. so im afraid you have had a wasted weekend on here which i am sorry for and i hope you do get your car sorted soon though.

There is a plastic release on the radiator you need to unscrew it let all the air out then tighten it up..

Check this site out www.mini2.com
